Ako Whanau Gallagher label designs

For our topic this term, Moola, we have been learning about and creating products to sell at our Online Craft Market.

Lots of learning has already happened. We have learnt about finding recipes, costing ingredients, branding, packaging... just to name a few!

When used all our knowledge to make labels for our pizza dough and fresh pasta products. We used comments to place our votes and voila! Matai's label was voted the winner. Do you agree? Who would you vote for and why?

Online Shopping with the Juniors

For our Moolah topic, we have learnt about researching products to compare and buy them online. We learnt the difference between sorting prices Low to High compared to sorting by Unit Price.

With what we know, we used our Chromebooks to teach Junior students what they could spend up to $2 from New World. It was lots of fun to work with younger students. We even helped with some of their learning while there.

Hayley R and her Writing

Hayley R shared her ideas about what an Axolotl would be like in real life. I really enjoyed her opening sentence, describing the creature as "different, happy, and unique" awesome mahi Hayley R!

What is this description of?

Brooke has written this fantastic description.
What do you think this could be describing?

The body looks like a frog however the colour of its body is
like a really really pale skin colour.

Its feet are the same colour as the body. Also its feet look
like sharp claws.

It has really tiny eyes that are blue which the right one is far
on the right and the left one is far on the left to.

The creature its self looks really small
Looks like a sea creature also it doesn't have a nose.

On its head it has pink fluffy looking tentacles. its head looks
like a potato and the size of a potato but a potato facing on its
side. The colour of its head is the same as the rest of the body.

Its mouth looks like a line with a littile bit of curve to it and
has no lips.

Is Mr Fish Dancing??

Kia ora e te whanau!!!

I hope all of you and the people at home are enjoying the extra time together to do stuff!
Here is Mr Fish who has been living in a new smaller tank since school closed. I thought he would be a little upset at how much smaller it was, but he seems to be having a lot of fun in his new environment. His rock is still the absolute favourite place for Mr Fish to chill and take a break from his world. But, there is something a little different about this smaller tank that has Mr Fish dancing! Yes , I believe he is dancing!

Please comment on what you see in the video, do you agree with me? Or is there another explanation...

Stay tuned for more videos...not just Mr Fish ones!

Something VERY strange is happening: a Mr Fish update

Dear Kakihatea children,

Something VERY strange is happening.

This week there weren't many children in the class and then there were none at all! As I hid in my rock spying, everyone kept talking about not coming to school AT ALL for a while. I was very worried that I was going to be left at school by myself with no one to spy on and worse, no one to feed me. I jump out of my tank to look for food when I am hungry.

Then Ms Ghent took me on an adventure. I DO NOT like adventures and only like staying in my tank. Now I am in a new classroom with only 3 people, Ms Ghent, Ms Ghent's husband and their daughter, Willow. It is a very strange classroom as there is a kitchen next to where I am staying. They call it their house. There are no bells and the humans are always here. I guess I will have to get used to it.

Where are you all?! Do you have a fish at your house too? Do you also have a nice rock to hide in?

Mr Fish
(Sometimes known as Brownie)

What are you reading?

Mōrena!

Miss G here. I have something to admit. I have NEVER read a David Walliams book... but during the lockdown, I am changing this! David Walliams is releasing a free audio story each day for the next month. I've heard all about Grubby Gertrude from the World's Worst Children. I hope all of you are keeping clean so that you don't get gross like her! Here is the link if you also want to listen:
https://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/elevenses/

I thought this would be a great chance for you to share some of your favourite stories. In the comments below, comment:
What books do you recommend and why?
What are your favourite books on Epic? Why should we read them?

Excitingly, your parents can sign up to Epic for FREE until the 30th of June so you can do as much reading as you like! Children can also listen to some books for free on Audible. Here is the link: https://www.audible.com/ep/kids-audiobooks

Enjoy your reading,
Miss G

Keeping yourself moving

Ata mārie!

It is quite difficult to stay at home and not move about! The teachers at PCS have challenged each other to keep moving each day. We are trying to spell out our name each day. Some of us have easier names than others. You might like to challenge yourself and some others to try the same. If you are unsure of how to complete some of the exercises, Youtube has videos that show you how.

In England, children and their whanau have been completing PE with Joe Wicks each day. Lots of parents are realising how much you have to move when doing PE and Fitness! Here is the link if you want to try it out:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rz0go1pTda8&list=PLyCLoPd4VxBvQafyve889qVcPxYEjdSTl

How are you keeping yourself active?

Keep moving,
Ms Ghent and Miss G

Lockdown update

Kia ora kids!

Hope you are all staying inside your homes and finding some interesting things to do. Keep checking the class blog and hub site for updates. School holidays have been moved so they from the 30th of March to the 14th of April. On the 14th of April, check the hubsite and/or this blog to find out about how your online learning will look.

Miss Gallagher has been using the lockdown to spend extra time talking to her family and friends and playing her favourite board game, Rummikub! Ms Ghent has been setting up a bedroom for the new member of her home for the next little while... Mr Fish (sometimes known as Brownie)! He is staying in his holiday house but got to bring his favourite rock with him so he is very happy.

What have you all been up to?

Just a reminder of the Kawa of Care. Here is the student section for you to reread. Your emails are a great way to keep in contact with each other but make sure you remember to be kind to one another :) The teachers are going to use this time to do some learning about some new special features on Hapara so can't wait to tell you about them.

Stay safe,
Miss G and Ms Ghent

The worst thing we had ever done Writing

Kahikatea hub was lucky enough to get a School kit called Get NZ Writing. The first task was to write a poem about the worst thing we had ever done. Here are some of our creations!

Plant sketches

Kahikatea hub has been learning about plants including the parts of and what is needed to look after plants.

For our task this afternoon, we started sketches of different plants by our hub. Miss Gallagher had a turn at creating a sketch.

We are going to practise giving each other feedback about our designs by commenting on each others art, by commenting on our blogs.

Please leave some positive, thoughtful and helpful comments about my drawing.
